Press Release 27 Mar 2017

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, together with Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton, today (December 7th 2012) announced that Nypro Healthcare is to further expand its medical device operations in Bray, Co. Wicklow with the opening of a new medical device development centre and the creation of 100 new high quality jobs. Today’s announcement is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Nypro Healthcare has created 160 new jobs in the last 24 months. Today’s announcement, of 100 additional jobs will bring Nypro Healthcare’s total Irish workforce to 460. The increase in the company’s headcount comes following a complete transition from 2008 in Nypro Healthcare’s focus from the electronic industry to that of the drug delivery and diagnostics industry.
Nypro Healthcare’s transformation, which has taken place over the last number of years, has redirected the company towards development and manufacture of complex high- growth inhalation and injectable drug delivery devices. This strategic move has been facilitated by the excellent and dedicated workforce of the Nypro Ireland Healthcare team resulting in the Irish operations being a key component of the Nypro Healthcare global offering. Included in the client list of Nypro Healthcare are 8 of the top 10 global pharmaceutical companies.

Making the announcement, Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD said, “Ireland’s reputation as a leading location for business and investment in the life sciences sector is further boosted by this announcement of 100 new highly-skilled jobs at Nypro's Bray facility.  Maintaining Ireland as an attractive location for investment is a priority for Government and is recognised by long established companies such as Nypro who have had a presence here since 1980. I'm delighted that today’s announcement deepens the long standing relationship between Nypro and Ireland.”

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said: “Healthcare and life sciences is a key sector targeted by the Government for employment growth as part of the Action Plan for Jobs. In 2012 we have implemented a number of key measures to support expansion in this area, including the establishment of a Health Innovation Hub to support collaboration between the health system and enterprise for their mutual gain. Today’s announcement is a further indication of the potential of this sector to deliver jobs across the country, and is great news for Bray, and I am determined to build on this to create the growth and employment we need”.

James O’ Gorman, Vice President, Drug Delivery and Diagnostics of Nypro said, ‘Nypro Healthcare is now a recognised leader in the development and manufacture of complex drug delivery and diagnostics devices. This seismic shift in our business model in the last five years was enabled by our parent company Nypro Inc and built upon the skills, work ethic, creativity and drive of our Nypro Ireland team. The success of this transition is evident by our very impressive large Pharmaceutical client list combined with the complexity of the products they have entrusted us to develop and produce, coupled with the bright future for us in Ireland.   Nypro is very proud to be operating in Ireland since 1980; Ireland has proven to be a very successful location for us. I would like to thank Nypro Inc, the Irish Government, the IDA and our Ireland team for their continued support and look forward to the further growth of our operation here in future years.’

Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said: ‘Nypro Healthcare is an excellent example of a company that has identified a need for expertise in a particular market and transformed its existing operation to serve this niche. I am particularly impressed by Nypro Healthcare’s client list in Ireland – they are working with some of the biggest Pharma brands in the world, many of whom have significant operations here.  Company transformation of the type that Nypro has achieved in recent years is a very important part of IDA Ireland’s strategy - Horizon 2020.’
